Who should have to pay??
I took my car in to get the inspection done yesterday. It passed, thank goodness, but when they called to tell me it was done, they told me that when the worker tried to open the door, he broke the door handle off! I couldn't figure out what they meant. I got there and the owner came and talked to me and told me he would order the part in and put it in for us. He said that he would do whatever he needed to make us happy with the payment part. I paid for the inspection. The door handle alone is about 65.00. We have not noticed it getting loose or being even close to breaking and Brandon just barely waxed the car and I think he would have noticed a crack or something loose. It is an 8 year old car, which I know stuff like that happens. I think the guy was trying to open the door with it locked and yanked on the handle just a little too hard and it flipped back and cracked it off. am so bummed.. I really don't have the money to be paying for a freakin door handle as I can barely afford groceries and gas! SO, my question is... who should have to pay for this? Them? Us? Half? Let me know what you think!!

That is totally their responsibility. It isn't your fault that they broke it. We had kind of the same situation, we had our tires rotated, and the guy was trying to force the hubcap back on and cracked it, and then just tried to leave it cracked. Matt made them order another one and put it on for free because it was totally their fault. You need to tell them that you aren't paying for it, and that they have to eat the cost because it was fine when you took it in and their guy broke it.
They should totally have to pay for it. They broke it, they are responsible! My friend told me a similar story (well, worse), but her day care provider took her van in for some brake work and they forgot to do something, so the brakes didn't work. Well, the guy that backed it out of the garage total his boss' brand new 2008 BMW. While they are responsible for it all, she still has to deal with a rental car. They tried to giver her a little Taurus or something in replacement for her mini van. Umm, yeah, she does daycare, how can she haul kids around in a Taurus!?!?!? Anyways, make them pay for 100%, and be grateful it's still drive-able!!!
Them all the way, no question.
I'd tell the owner of the shop that if you need to extend him payment plans than you'd be willing to accomodate him. Seriously, they broke it, they pay for it, all of it.
well sis.. since they offered to pay and put it in i would take the offer and say thanks! really that is nice of them:) it broke under their building but they said they would pay. So ya
I think they should totally pay for it. I used to work at a windshield/safety and emissions place. If we ever damaged any ones car the company would pay for it. Hope that helps, good luck.
I am so glad that I found your blog. It sounds like you and your husband are having fun. And I wouldn't pay for the door handle. I hope you dont mind me checking your blog to keep up to what you are doing. I haven't seen you in forever. Keep in touch!
Them BIG STUPID DUMBS! THEY should have to pay! NOT YOU! Plus they have insurance for damage they do to vehicles while in their care ... I am sure this falls under their deductible .. BUT still ... NOT YOUR PROBLEM! THEIRS!!! If they don't pay for it .. turn them into the better business bureau.
